Dental Radiographs

By February 12, 2015 No Comments

The use of radiographs is essential as a diagnostic tool in veterinary dentistry.

Dental radiographs are taken for many reasons:

  • To visualize root/bone before extraction
  • To reveal pathology that would otherwise have been missed
  • To view the extent of dental abscesses
  • To view the presence of non erupted teeth
  • The relationship between deciduous & permanent teeth
  • To evaluate long term processes
  • To create a baseline
  • To isolate the affected tooth

**A recent study showed that in 48% of feline cases, obtaining dental radiographs revealed pathology that would otherwise been missed**
